The mural that started everything.

The City of Glendale selects artists through a juried application process to paint utility boxes across the city as part of a public art program. I applied, got selected, and teamed up with illustrator Ruby Chen. She handled the character illustrations, I handled the lettering and concept.

I chose "Yes You Can" because I wanted something that would hit people mid-commute. Not a quote, not a lyric, just a direct reminder for every girl driving past that she is capable of whatever she is working toward. The lettering is bold and dimensional, designed to read fast from a car at street level.

This was my first public mural commission and the one that opened the door to everything that came after.
