Like any exercise, creative muscle takes time to build and requires a lot of effort. People build creative muscle at different rates, but yours will surely increase if you follow these 7 tips:
1. BE CONSISTENT
Whatever you choose to do, you should stick with it. Go after what you want. Even if you only have 15 minutes a day, that’s 5,475 minutes a year that you can put toward your dream. You can build your creative muscle with the time you have now. It will never happen if you keep waiting for a perfect moment.
2. PUSH YOUR LIMIT
Constantly explore and challenge yourself. Try something new (mediums, topics, etc.) every day, even if it’s uncomfortable. It is similar to when you lift weights, you add weight with each set to strengthen the muscle.
3. CONSUME LESS SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media is a good place to showcase your talent but it can be a time-sucking and comparison rabbit hole. To help your creative muscle grow, finding a balanced diet is a key. Reduce social media consumption by using Screen Time or a similar app. You can also turn off all social media notifications. Get your inspiration from your surroundings and within yourself rather than scrolling on the apps non-stop.
4. INCREASE POSITIVE PROTEIN INTAKE
For people who wish to build creative muscle, Positive Protein is especially needed. Sources of positive protein include:
Meditation
Positive affirmations
Good people
Inspirational books/ podcasts
Uplifting music
5. RECOVERY: REST & SLEEP
Rest is an important part of building creative muscle. By not resting, you can slow down progress and increase the risk of burning out.
Getting enough sleep is also crucial. Don’t trade sleep for anything - nothing is worth more than your health!
6. DRINK WATER
People often overlook the importance of water consumption. It is crucial to building and developing strong creative muscles because water makes up two-thirds of our body. Dehydration can cause dizziness, which can affect your creative performance. Tiredness and being creative don’t mix!
Stay hydrated, stay healthy, and keep creating!
7. LONG-TERM TRAINING
It takes several months - or even years - of consistent exercises before creative muscle changes become visible. Be patient with yourself. It’s important to keep in mind: progress over perfection.
